BMW Owner Swag

Everybody has a routine. My routine after work is to check the mail before going inside the house. Today the mailbox has something out of the ordinary and when it was flipped over, the package read: “Thank You From BMW.” Alright, so they’re sending out some coupons for service or maybe some documentation on other services they have available. Maybe it’s a fancy Christmas card. It’s also strange that it’s been nearly two months since I purchased the car. This is a weird followup interval. I shrug and put it on the table with the rest of the mail. Hours go by. I remember it’s still sitting on the table and check to see what this thing is.

As the package unfolds I can see that it’s a box that the front flips open. It feels nice, of course, and the logo is raised on the lid. I open the lid and discover a chrome key fob, but it’s not quite the right size. Sure it looks nice, but I bet it’s direct from China. I grab it and am floored, it’s solid metal and has weight. What is this thing and does everyone that buys a BMW get one? I’ve never heard about this amongst all the stories I read  while performing due diligence on my car purchase. I personally know people that own them and nobody has talked about it. Maybe many people discount this, but the construction and quality are spot on. Just strange I guess.

There is a card that has a bunch of “You’re the best” and “your car says a lot about you as a person” stuff on it. You know, the typical kind of drivel that makes people come back for more because they love to be told how awesome they are. So I’m skimming through this small note and get to the key point. This little thing is a USB stick that comes preloaded with all the BMW links you can handle related to service, maintenance, warranty, financing, Connected Drive, etc, etc, etc. That’s cool and all, but I’m just gonna delete that stuff and use it for something else. All in all, amazing job BMW, but, I also know that the reason there is a “BMW Tax” is to pay for crap like this. It’s cool, but certainly not necessary.
